Thanks to everyone who has ordered a book! If I haven't responded to your notes and comments and requests yet, I'll try to within the next couple of days. I'll also be sure to keep everyone posted as the books arrive and start to get sent.
Some orderers have not been able to make notes on paypal for some reason, so feel free to email me with questions and stuff.
Thanks again, the Laugh-Out-Loud Cats would not exist without good people like you!
Also, if you have ordered a comic or fan club membership, my plan is to have them in the mail by the end of the month.
This week I've learned something: people love hedgehogs. The three comics I've posted which show hedgehogs have generated near immediate email responses requesting the original. If someone out there is looking for a way to make money as a cartoonist, the answer is in hedgehogs.
I'm not sure how I feel about them being used to shill financial services.
I like this song. The original is by Andrew Bird, if you didn't know. This cover is by MsPennyCandy, which I hope is her real name.
It only took me an hour and a half to figure out what the comments were about. Thanks! I would say that was my first misspelling, but you know.
Now in book form and available from Lulu.com on January 25, 2008 starting at Noon Eastern.
192 pages, $14.95 + shipping.
A limited number of signed (and drawn in) copies will also be available starting on the 25th (also at Noon) for $30 including shipping via this blog (HOBOTOPIA.com).
Shipping time on the signed/drawn-in copies will be longer than ordering unsigned copies directly from Lulu. Possibly up to a month.
The proof copy of the book, according to UPS, in in South Carolina. I could have it in my hands tomorrow, and if I do, I'll be sure to post about it, good or bad.
Meanwhile, I think I'll be slowing down to posting one comic a day for a bit as things ramp up to selling the book. We'll see.
If you've ordered a comic, my plan is to have everything in the mail by the end of the month at the very latest. Several went out today, so keep checking your mailbox. I recommend once an hour.
Meanwhile, enjoy one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite multiple-patent holders.
The proof copy of Meet the Laugh-Out-Loud Cats should be in my hands within the week. It's pocket sized (for your convenience) and is jam packed with comics and new drawings. It also includes some notes and thoughts from Pappy himself as well as a leaf or two.
My goal is to have it available by the end of the month and things seem to be heading that way. I'm also working on a system to do signed copies. I'll keep you posted as I figure stuff out.
Meanwhile, my monitor is on the fritz. I may have found a new one through craigslist, but comics won't be posted till such things are resolved---most likely late tonight.
At the moment I can't see the top half of the screen. Or should I say I can only see the bottom half of the screen. I try to remain optimistic about such things.
Originally published in 1973, restoration efforts are currently underway. My goal is the end of the month. I'll be using Lulu to print it and trying to keep the price right around $20 with shipping.
I'll be selling a limited number of signed copies too for a bit more.
More info as I get closer to print.
This line was submitted as a request and seems to fit pretty well.
Created for someone who tests slides for a living. Hopefully this kind.
I've never seen Labyrinth*, but apparently it's pretty quotable. It was hard to narrow it down for this request.
*I should do something about that.
These didn't sell in the recent show in Miami, so maybe they will here.
I'll try to respond to the mountain of comments on the comics over at flickr at some point today (including the name of Pip's bird pal. I like Timmo's idea, but the last name needs to be Yasgur for reasons I'll let you figure out).
I do read them all and I do thank you all.
Here's the monkey I drew for a recent winner of the Neatorama.com caption monkey contest.
This might be the only comic posted for Wednesday, but hopefully not. I do have lots of envelopes to stuff though.
Pablo posted this photo. The other day Pablo was kind enough to tag several of the comics I posted. Thanks, Pablo! And Timmo, he did some too!
There is nothing about this I don't like.
Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the outpouring of comments over on flickr. I do read them all and will try to respond soon. But first, a couple more comics.
Once in a while Kitteh springs for a hotel. It's not unheard of, if the song King of the Road is to be believed. And it is.
Someone requested a cow in their comic. And there it is!
Hear more about Pappy's life today on BoingBoingTV.
Fun fact: I used to live on the other side of the mountain from the Hollywood sign in beautiful downtown Burbank.
I've posted some of the greeting cards I drew for American Greetings last year. You can see them on flickr, here.
