Rediscovered footage!

Hopefully this will put to rest any more skepticism regarding the authenticity of the history of the Laugh-Out-Loud Cats.

I have never doubted the authenticity of your ancestor's work. This recovered film should convince even the most incredulous scoffer that this is the real deal!

Insisting that something is real when everyone knows it's a hoax is lame.

I'm pretty sure that I saw an iPhone in his non-drawing hand. You're trying to conceal the fact that your "ancestor" is actually from the future! Very clever!

The "film dust" is very prescient of the aesthetics of our age. You can see a definite precursor to this century's digital cinema even in the artifacts of this old analog recording equipment.

I, for one, welcome our time-traveling-LOLCat-artist overlords.

Ape Lad, where did your ancestor get that wonderful music from? Who is it?

saying it's lame to insist something is real when something is a hoax is pretty moronic when the something is not a hoax at all, but actually a very funny thing that is sublime, extremely well executed, and fabulous.

The name "langston philberry" is clearly a hoax!

Ah! And the sly H-in-Sunrays bit proves the existence of the great Hobo conspiracy at the time! Of course, this would have been made pre-New Deal, hm yes, yes. (nodding sagely)

the careful scholar will note that that's a "Hai" in sunrays, which raises all kinds of questions about the possible existence of heretofore unknown splinter groups...

The video effect is "Film Age, Oldest" from Windows Movie Maker. Great talent either way though.

I say its a hoax. I think I could recreate this Sony Vegas. Post a few pix of a few frames from the actual film.

Fake. Maybe I'm missing something - it's so fake everybody can see it. My guess is that this is part of the fun?? The whole manufacture of a history, complete now with "film" and "old" panels . . . I see the appeal.

Can you believe the scoffers? Next, they'll be saying that long horses never existed. http://xrl.us/longhorse

I hate to be a humorless idiot, but this somehow makes BoingBoing seem less credible. They typically link to, if nothing else, legitimate places, and they traditionally don't pass of hoaxes as official. This sits somewhat oddly with me, damnit!

I thoroughly enjoy being a humorless idiot. Why on earth would anyone ever find amusement in the creation of something that is not true? Next, you would have us believe that common housecats have somehow gained access to our computers, and have been upgrading our RAM. Preposterous! I will brook no more of this balderdash!

Sincerely yours, etc.

Oh man, I can't get over the fact that so many people are so EAGER to seriously "expose" this as a hoax.

Get over it. The joke's on you, if only because you don't get it. :)

<3 for Apelad and great-grandpappy Aloysius.

Hoax or not, I think LOLcat strips are wonderful :D

The biggest give away is the hard edge of the frame on the vertical jitter. Most film damage filters give a very poor look if you're used to working with real film and seeing the real thing.

It's a lovely joke/hoax. The strips and the film are well done. I absolutely wish it were true if for no other reason than to show how history so repeats itself!

Awesome. :)

Amazing how you and your grandfather have the same signature/handwriting style, both left handed, same hair on arm...proof that genes do get passed on to others!
LOL. :-)

Next make a video of how your grandfather came out of the grave and is now drawing your illustrations!

sound recordings from 1912? or did you drop in the skip james recording (1929 or '32, I think) yourself?

Skip James was defintely a time traveller as well.

Skip James was the original SUper Freak.

How deliciously Hoaxy. Well done! Kudos to all responsible - this ushers in a new art form: Post-Modern Hoaxism. The art of perpetration of a hoax with obvious signs of manufacture, yet tightly spun to create a dichotomy of realism and fakeness. Both coexist, in an aura of effortfulness on the part of the artist that evokes awe and admiration on the part of the viewer.

I can hardly wait for multimedia installations at the MOMA, exhibiting the best of the best of Post-Modern Hoaxism.

I am a big fan of early comix so I'm glad that finally the Koford archives are being shared with the world.

A fitting homage to one of the greats, by the heir apparent. Thanks, Mr. A. Lad, for providing this wonderful homage to both "Gorilla" Koford and the other heroes of early comix.
