    (but how does a kitten paint way up high like that? it's not like curtains that one can claw)

    It's obvious - Pip covered himself with paint, then leaped high (as cats do) and slid down the wall to make the letters. (The brush is a lever to steer himself sideways.) Unfortunately, the method doesn't allow careful measuring of amounts.
    Pip really throws himself into his art.
